Barry has been an active musician and composer since 1973 and has performed in a wide variety of music groups both in a semi-professional and professional capacity. A true multi-instrumentalist, playing a wide variety of brass, percussion and wind instruments, he has however concentrated his efforts on the keyboard and stringed instruments and is proficient in both acoustic and electronically generated music.

Barry got his start in the South African Television and Corporate Video fields in 1980 when he found creative gainful employment in UNISA's Department of Educational Technology. From the outset his tasks were manifold. As in any compact production facility, it's all hands on deck and Barry soon found himself involved in every facet of the video production chain. From scriptwriting and storyboards to studio lighting and EFP production, ENG and post-production, in both audio & video. Working alongside some of the best talent from the 'old school' film medium meant that he was soon well versed in all aspects of professional standard video production.

In 1990 Barry turned freelance with regards to video production while maintaining a professional grade mutli-track music recording facility from home (and 'Ugly Duck' was born!).

In video production he was actively involved in numerous broadcast projects from lighting cameraman and sound recordist through off & on-line edit, to graphic design, final mix and of course, music composition and production. He is directly credited (in one form or another) in well over 1000 broadcast and corporate video productions between 1990 & 2000.

 Barry has composed, arranged and produced numerous themes, dramatic and mood underscores for a number of productions. See 'Brag Page' for a comprehensive CV and numerous samples. Style as varied as military music for a thirty piece brass band to orchestral, contemporary and ethnic scores for the film, television and corporate video fields. And in keeping with the 'digital' age, web-site music has also been added to the list.
In many of the productions represented here, Barry was also responsible for the final audio, being hands-on throughout the post-production process.
